11-Year Old Yemeni Nada Al-Ahdal Flees Home to Avoid Forced Marriage

In some parts of the world, young girls are forced into marriages by their family. The reasons may be cultural, economic, or something else entirely, but the abrupt end to their childhoods is a devastating experience for many. When 11 year-old Nada Al-Ahdal was informed that she was to be married, she took matters into her own hands. She fled to her uncle's home for protection and safety. She says she'd rather kill herself than return to her family and go through with the marriage her family had arranged against her will. Click to watch the video of this brave and strong girl explaining her situation and detailing why she finally decided to run away from home. She delivers a power appeal to all the girls who find themselves in situations like Nada's but have no voice to speak against their plight.
