Georgia 'quality breeder' faces animal cruelty in inhumane puppy tail docking

Leslie Ayo, the owner of Heavens Gate Kennels located in Lawrenceville, was arrested on Thursday and faces eight counts of animal cruelty for the inhumane tail docking of eight Rottweiler puppies reports the gwinnettdailypost.com.
Ayo was hired by a local woman living on Deer Oaks Drive to de-worm, de-claw, and dock the tails of her eight recently born puppies. A witness watched as Ayo used an instrument that looked like a pair of scissors to cut the pups' tails. Nothing was used to stop the bleeding; one puppy later died at a local veterinarian's office. The vet then called Gwinnett County Animal Control to report the cruelty.
The witness stated the puppies all screamed in pain. No anesthetics were used.
On Ayo's Facebook page for Heavens Gate Kennels, she states:

"I gained valuable experience and knowledge as an S.P.C.A Animal Caretaker, Zoo Volunteer, Vet Technician, owner of a successful pet supply boutique, and Director of a No-Kill Dog Rescue. I am a breeder who knows the industry from the bottom all the way to the top and it shows in the quality and temperaments of my animals."

13 Examples Of People Being Awesome In The Middle Of The Atlanta Traffic Jam

Amid all the snow-related nonsense going down in Atlanta, people are showing immense compassion on a local Facebook group, SnowedOutAtlanta.
People are using the group, created by Georgia resident Michelle Sollicito, to post their locations, asking for help for themselves or their loved ones. The most tragic stories involve diabetics, the elderly, and families with young children, especially infants. Some people can't even get in touch with their families.
Aside from calls for help, offers of assistance are also being publicized. People with large vehicles are selflessly posting their contact information to retrieve those stranded or bring supplies. Members are also opening up their homes for shelter.
The posts are getting shares, tons of likes, and comments offering prayers and hope. The group — at 41,000 members and counting — is getting almost too big to help.

A Georgia family will be able to ring in the New Year thanks to their loyal dog who successfully alerted them to a devastating house fire, reported Thursday's WRCB TV News.
On Sunday night, while Jennifer Ross and her family were sound asleep, fire crept throughout their Gordon County home.
The family's intuitive pit bull, "Bella," noticed the looming danger first.
Ross described Bella's initial efforts to rouse her from sleep:

It sounded like she wanted to go out,"
I was like, 'Bella, let me sleep and I'll let you out in a little bit.'"

Thankfully, though Bella was initially given the brush off, she persisted in her efforts to wake her family.
Bella's efforts escalated - she began to jump on the bed and then ran to the door - it was enough to alert her drowsy guardian to the danger.

LITHONIA, Ga. — A woman whose family once took in the suspect in an Atlanta-area school shooting said Wednesday that he was mentally ill but never violent in the past.Natasha Knotts told The Associated Press that Michael Brandon Hill lived with her and her husband for several months in his late teens. She says she served as a mother figure for Hill in after he started coming to the small church where she and her husband are pastors.

Two people who encountered a man accused of opening fire inside an Atlanta school said he told them he was off his medication.

Also on Wednesday, police gave more details about the previous day’s ordeal and what led up to it. Before going to the school, investigators say that Hill took a photo of himself with an AK 47-style rifle and packed up nearly 500 rounds of ammunition — enough to shoot more than half the school’s students.Police said Hill, 20, got the gun from an acquaintance, but it’s not clear if he stole it or had permission to take it.No one was injured, but the suspect exchanged gunfire with police who surrounded Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy in Decatur. The school’s 870 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade were evacuated.“We have to make a reasonable assumption he was there to do harm to someone,” said DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric L. Alexander.Knotts said Hill called her sister Tuesday afternoon before the shooting and said he had a rifle but didn’t say what he was planning to do. She said she believes that Hill acted out as a plea for help.“This is something that’s totally out of his character. This is not him. This is not the Mike that I know. For anyone that knew Mike, this was a total devastation,” she said in an interview at her home in Lithonia.Though there is no blood or legal connection between them, Knotts said she considers Hill like a son.“He was part of our family,” Knotts said of the roughly six months that Hill stayed with them several years ago. Her family was aware that “he had a mental disorder” before he moved in, but she said he was loving and quiet and never displayed any anger or violent tendencies.
He didn’t work, didn’t seem to have any friends and hardly ever spoke about his family or his past, Knotts said. Hill told her that his birth mother was dead and that he didn’t know his father. He also has brothers.
She kept in touch after he moved out and said he’d recently been living with another couple who belonged to the church. Knotts last saw Hill about a month ago and he seemed fine.
Hill held one or two staff members in the front office captive for a time, the police chief said, making one of them call a local TV station. At some point, he fired into the floor of the school office. As officers swarmed the campus outside, he shot at them at least a half a dozen times with an assault rifle from inside the school and they returned fire, police said. Police came into the school office, and Hill surrendered.
Hill is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, terroristic threats and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Police declined to discuss what he told them when he was questioned.

A giant panda at Zoo Atlanta gave birth to the first twins born to the species in an American zoo since 1987.
The 15-year-old Lun Lun went into labor Monday afternoon and gave birth to the first cub at 6:21 and the second two minutes later.
Zookeepers who had been anticipating only one cub based on a recent ultrasound were surprised by the first-ever twin panda births at Zoo Atlanta.
‘We have twins!’ Zoo Atlanta announced on its website.

Surprise! 15-year-old Lun Lun was to be a mom for the fourth time, but ended up birthing a set of twins Monday to the surprise and joy of Zoo Atlanta staff

An ultrasound on June 30 determined that Lun Lun was pregnant with her fourth cub. Zoo spokesperson Keisha Hines says zookeepers weren't expecting the tiny duo, however.
The twin cubs are the first giant pandas to be born in the United States in 2013, Hines added.
Zoo officials are working with animal care workers from the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, where Lun Lun and her 15-year-old partner, Yang Yang, were born. There was no immediate report on the size or weight of the cubs at birth, nor the condition of the offspring and mother.
But zoo officials were in a celebratory mood.
