biggest college football games of the weekend, United Airlines may be saving the Navy-Air Force game, originally scheduled for Saturday in Annapolis.
With the service academies saying they must call off their athletic events in light of the budget freeze, United said Wednesday it would fly the Air Force team to the game at no charge.“We hate cancellations, so we’re offering to fly @AF_Academy to this year’s Air Force-Navy game. Air Force game against Navy will be played, sources tell ESPN
A source had told ESPN earlier Wednesday that "non-government funding" would take care of costs for the games.
"Not a dime of expenses: travel, game expenses, anything. Not one dime of government money will be spent," the source said.
Earlier Wednesday, a spokesman for the defense department told The Denver Post that "a legal review will determine if there is to be any change in the policy," in reference to a directive Tuesday suspending all intercollegiate sports activities at the service academies.
