There is nothing wrong with Cookie, who was dumped at Yonkers Animal Shelter at just six months old and spent the next six years of her life there.
The only thing that is wrong is that she remained homeless all of these precious years instead of enjoying life as a loving family member.
Cookie, now seven, was lucky to land at Yonkers, where she was given all the time she needed to find her match. Unfortunately, the shelter admits to having very little foot traffic in Cookie’s younger years.
So there she sat, waiting. Safe, not urgent, and overlooked.
And there she remained, hoping the right person would come along to take her home.

Owner surrenders senior dog because too much work to fix the fence

her life, Lola, an extremely friendly black Labrador retriever mix
lived in one home; the only home she ever knew. Last Saturday,
seven-year-old Lola was surrendered to the high kill San Bernardino
County Animal Shelter because the dog's owner just didn't feel like
fixing the fence where Lola played.
Now Lola cries in her kennel; she is just so lonely and misses her family. Sadly, they are never coming back for her.
Late last week Lola started coughing. Due to the limited funding at the shelter, upper respiratory infections often shorten the adoption alternatives. A volunteer is extremely worried about this sweet dog:

Urgent help needed for abused chihuahua with no teeth

first glance, rescuers thought they were dealing with an aged chihuahua
who had lost his teeth because of neglect. Tragically, the pooch has
been rushed to the veterinarian on Saturday evening; his rescuers state
this dog is less than two-years-old.
Rescuers believed tiny little Nemo has been badly abused and his teeth have been knocked out.

"Only a monster would knock the teeth out of a helpless little chihuahua," stated Kathleen Godwin of Ithaca, New York. "It's beyond horrible to think of what this poor little one must have suffered and the pain he must be in now."

Injured senior in need of emergency care
Note: *These companion pets are located at Animal Care Services and due to Extreme Overpopulation, they on the City San Antonio’s Euthanasia List and will be put to sleep unless they are fostered, adopted or rescued by the deadline noted above their ID#! According to San Antonio Pets Alive (SAPA), a senior Chihuahua is in dire need of emergency care at an animal control agency in Texas.
The non-profit organization shared the following information about the 9-year-old dog in need on Saturday:

This sweet ol’ guy just came in to ACS and he needs a hospice foster. He is a medical emergency. He will need to have his eye enucleated and SAPA will provide his medical care for a foster or adopter.
He is a sweet and gentle 9 yr old Chihuahua and he has been through hell and back and is very emaciated and has a painful Upper respiratory infection (like havinga bad cold). He is contagious to other pets for the next 7 to 10 days but he is so tiny and east to keep separated.
Chewy needs a warm space away from the others until he is feeling better. He weighs approx 8 lbs. This sweet little man just needs to be comfortable and loved for the short time he has left. Please email if you can help him.

Meet Bentley, the three-year-old dog that nobody wants.
When Bentley was just a pup, he was surrendered by his owner to a shelter in Nassau County in Long Island, N.Y.
Bentley was one of a litter of pups surrendered that day, so many years ago - his siblings found homes, but he never was adopted.
Today, the now adult dog, continues to wait, and hope that at some point, someone might want to call him their own.

Shelter reaches out for help for blind senior dog who was surrendered by owner

considered to be a "highly adoptable" dog - a fact which her prior owner
discovered she attempted to secure a new home for the elderly dog.
Though Athena's former guardian loved her beautiful senior dog, she was no longer able to care for her, and after attempts to find Athena a new home failed, that person reached out to the Hempstead Town Shelter in Wantagh, N.Y., to have the dog put down.

At three years of age, "Archie," has spent half of his life impounded at the facility and the time has taken its toll.Archie wants a friend - be it human or canine - he wants someone to spend his time with.
This handsome boy has been at the facility since July 2012 - an incredibly long period of time to be without a family and without one-on-one companionship.
Archie is described as friendly and playful - he loves belly rubs and does not mind being handled. Archie needs to be adopted - he needs a family and he needs to be loved.

Zeus' photo was posted on Facebook on Tuesday, along with a plea for help. Zeus' family had left him at the animal control facility and he was heartbroken about being left behind.
Zeus was listed as "rescue only," and there was great concern for his safety.
On Wednesday, I received the following email containing wonderful news:
I picked Zeus up this afternoon for CPR Fund K9 Rescue. He will be boarding at our vet's office (Forest South Animal Hospital in University Park, IL) until his foster mom returns from vacation on March 7th. He's a super sweet dog who loved the car ride and thoroughly enjoyed being scratched behind the ears. I have included a few pictures from his freedom ride.

Jangles is a one-year-old boxer mix who obviously didn't get much care
as a puppy because his legs have angular deformities leaving his back
limbs four inches longer than his front legs.

Betrayed, owner reclaims one dog, leaving the other pup behind at animal control

The dog, named "Dawn," was taken in at the facility on Feb. 7 - at the time, she came in with another dog.
The day that Dawn's owner showed up to the animal control facility should have been a joyous one...but it was not. The person took the other dog home and surrendered Dawn, leaving her behind, and at risk.
On Thursday, Coastal Boxer Rescue shared this about Dawn:
She's a mix but looks more boxer in person. She is sooo sweet and just wants to crawl in your lap and bury her head. She's terrified at the shelter and just wants to be with people. She is an owner surrender and is good with other dogs. She was found with a sibling but the owner took him back and left her!!Please take a moment to network on Dawn's behalf - she was betrayed by her former owner and deserves the chance to join a family who would never think of doing that to her again.

Disabled boxer in desperate need of a foster home

The break, and the lack of veterinary care, left Rocky completely paralyzed, and without feeling, in his rear legs.
The Florida rescue organization, Coastal Boxer Rescue, is desperately searching for someone who can help Rocky. The rescue agency shared the specifics about Rocky's special needs:
We aren’t going to sugar coat this. This will require very dedicated caregivers. Rocky will need 24/7 care from loving owners. Yes, additional therapy may result in a better quality of life. But the reality is he will need special owners who are dedicated to him the remainder of his days.The paralysis has left Rocky with no feeling in his rear legs and he is unable to urinate on his own. This hurdle can be overcome by someone who is willing to express his bladder several times each day. Rocky can eliminate waste, but is unable to move away from his "mess."
Coastal Boxer Rescue realizes that their request for Rocky is large, but they know that he is worth it.
The rescue agency shared:
As far as his soul…Rocky is one of the sweetest dogs and doesn’t let any of this slow him down. He wants to badly play with the other dogs at our vets and just eats up any attention given to him. He deserved none of what has happened to him in his short life. Rocky has a super silly personality and just appears overjoyed the whole time you are working with him.Rocky's special needs are not conducive to boarding - he needs a special person who is willing to devote their time to make his life bearable.

The latest update on "PL" reveals that she has been seen by a veterinarian and plans are in the works to guarantee a safe future:
Little PL will spend the night at the vet to watch her since she's lethargic. The break is older, the leg is atrophied, growth plate is broken just above the knee, so there is nothing to reattach it to. amputation is a highly likely outcome. She also has a scratch on her eye that is going to be treated. Soldier, the pit bull who was found with an old, black and white photo
tucked into his collar has a new home with a woman who lives in Dryden,
Va.in Greenville, S.C., has found a home.Soldier was picked up as a stray in mid-January, and the mysterious photo discovered in his collar, which showed a man who appeared to be in a military uniform, generated a great deal of intrigue and interest. Thanks to that intrigue, his story quickly spread nationwide.
The initial hope was that Soldier's true owner would be found and that the pair would be reunited, but that never happened.
Instead, Soldier has a new home with a woman who lives in Dryden, Va., who has experience with pit bulls. Soldier's new guardian, Julie Hensley, a 50-year-old attorney, dog rescuer and "pit bull enthusiast."
