A homeless dog's transformation: sick, sad and lonely on the streets, he is rescued and turns into a joyful dog surrounded by friends.
This little dog was living in a cardboard box, on the streets and was in a very bad shape when we rescued him. We do not know if he ever had an owner as he didn’t have a microchip but taking into account his skin condition, he seemed to have been roaming the streets for a very long time: full of fleas, he developed an allergic dermatitis which led to hair loss on some parts of his body (especially on his neck and back). Untreated, it progressed, became chronic and got infected with Malassezia, a yeast that also caused him otitis. We had him on specific medication and medicated shampoos, but hair has still to grow on the affected areas. Except for the stubborn skin problem that we hope will be solved, Buzu is a healthy dog. He is ~5-6 years old, still a little shy with people he doesn’t know, very submissive and calm. He’s not very interested in exploring new territories and feels safer in the areas he knows, he likes to take a few runs in the garden, then to relax in the sun. He is friendly with other dogs and his best friend is a cat :) He appreciates most the things he didn’t have on the street: love, food and security.
He is the kindest dog we’ve ever met and it’s so hard to understand how could have someone abandoned him and why he had been on the streets for so many years.
Anyone willing to offer him the love and home he deserves please contact us on contact@howlofadog.org. Thank you!
Additional info: Buzu has an up-to-date medical record with all necessary vaccines and treatments and is now microchiped and neutered.
Any donation is greatly appreciated and will help us rescue more animals in need.

UPDATE 15 FEB 2015: BUZU WAS ADOPTED!
We managed to find Buzu a wonderful adoptive family in England.
After a very long trip (~2000 km) he arrived yesterday at his forever home. It’s the perfect place for him: his “mom” is not only a great animal lover but she also has a lot of experience with dogs, running a day care center for dogs and working closely with veterinarians. So Buzu will be overwhelmed with love and provided all the medical care he needs. He’s sharing his home with another lovely dog and a cat, which is just perfect because he loves having friends around. Thank you so much Emma for making Buzu a part of your family and offering him the home he has been waiting for all this time!
We must also thank everyone who helped us and got involved in Buzu’s story.
And thank you to all of you who have shared his photos/video on Facebook or YouTube – that’s how his story got to his adoptive family. Our gratitude to all Howl Of A Dog friends!
Have a long happy life Buzu!

Animal Rescue Stories : A dog injured in a hit-and-run accident is believed to have walked almost 200 miles to find the Russian woman who nursed her back to health.
METRO UK
Dog ‘walks 200 miles to find woman who nursed her back to health after hit-and-run accident’

Shavi was left to die by the side of the road after the crash, in southern Russia’s Rostov Oblast region last winter.
She had been living on the streets as a stray when the driver hit her, and then just drove away, Russian media reported.
He left Shavi to die in agony with two broken legs by the side of the road, where she was shivering and freezing.
But luckily, two passersby saw the animal and took her to the vet, before appealing online for someone who could care for her as she recovered.

Marnie the dog: from stray to star – now raising money for senior pups like her
the guardian
Before Marnie found herself in the arms of Tina Fey and Taylor Swift, she was a partially blind stray living on the streets. Now her internet fame is helping others

Marnie the dog – a 13-year-old Shih Tzu known for her ever-present tongue and head tilt – has risen from a stray to a star. Now, the Instagram celebrity is using her fame to advocate for senior pups like her.
Shirley Braha, who adopted Marnie three years ago, is using her dog’s growing popularity to shed light on the adoption of senior dogs. She’s created a fund – Marnie’s Old Pals – to help senior dogs in shelters receive necessary veterinary care.
To celebrate Marnie’s 13th birthday and the launch of her new book, Braha’s group held its first fundraiser on Monday night in New York, and asked those who attended to donate $5 to the fund.

The
9-year-old Belgian Malinois, Rex, had served with the Albuquerque
Police Department since 2013, and spent several years in the military
before that, the Albuquerque Journal reports. Rex
was present during the shooting of homeless man James Boyd that led to
criminal charges for two APD officers, and appears in video of the
incident.
When Rex’s handler, Scott Weimersckirch, retired, the APD said Rex was too old and too bonded to Weimersckirch to be transferred to another handler. But the officer couldn't adopt Rex due to concerns that the dog would be a threat to his young child, APD spokeswoman Celina Espinoza told local news station KRQE.
A city shelter took Rex in, but the APD said Monday it was likely the dog would be euthanized, since his military and police background would make finding a suitable home difficult.

Owner surrenders senior dog because too much work to fix the fence
All
her life, Lola, an extremely friendly black Labrador retriever mix
lived in one home; the only home she ever knew. Last Saturday,
seven-year-old Lola was surrendered to the high kill San Bernardino
County Animal Shelter because the dog's owner just didn't feel like
fixing the fence where Lola played.
Now Lola cries in her kennel; she is just so lonely and misses her family. Sadly, they are never coming back for her.
Late last week Lola started coughing. Due to the limited funding at the shelter, upper respiratory infections often shorten the adoption alternatives. A volunteer is extremely worried about this sweet dog:

"Lola is getting sick, her sadness and disappointment put her immune system low and now she got sick. I am worried...she is older, fragile, and it will decrease her chances to be adopted. HELP!!!!!"

Injured puppy dumped at California construction site

Thanks to Facebook networking, this little princess has been saved.
The plea for help came on Friday afternoon with the following words issued to hundreds of people:
Puppy dumped at construction site, badly broken leg needs vet care asap. Person who found puppy at the site can not take dog home due to already taking 3 dogs that were dumped previously and is at max for household. The response was swift...perfect strangers coordinated to pick up, meet and pass off - the rescue efforts necessary to save one precious soul's life.
The latest update on "PL" reveals that she has been seen by a veterinarian and plans are in the works to guarantee a safe future:
Little PL will spend the night at the vet to watch her since she's lethargic. The break is older, the leg is atrophied, growth plate is broken just above the knee, so there is nothing to reattach it to. amputation is a highly likely outcome. She also has a scratch on her eye that is going to be treated. BUT she will heal and go on to a forever home.Anyone hoping to contribute to this little girl's veterinary expenses can do so with the information below:
Donations can be called into Adobe Animal Hospital 4470 El Camino Real Los Altos, CA 94022 or call in 650-948-9661 under Carrie Colet "New dog" the name will be changed to Princess Louise. If you would like to continue receiving the latest animal related news, tips and advice, please click the "Subscribe" icon which is located near the top, left portion of this column.
